THE PROBLEM

With a large team of 24 students, the class was divided into two film crews and trialled to tell two stories simultaneously through a continuous split-screen format.

The core challenge was to narrate two distinct stories that ultimately form one cohesive narrative.

THE SOLUTION

Walk animation

The goal was to create a film in which the audience could experience two stories unfolding in dialogue with one another, connected visually, thematically, and emotionally.

THE PREMISE

"Run" is a split-screen psychological thriller, illustrating the push and pull between a hunter and their prey. Following the story of Dan and Mira, where Dan goes through extreme lengths to obsessively track Mira down. When the hunter finally corners their prey, how will they escape their fate? Is fate something you can run from, or something we walk into willingly?

MY ROLES

Graphic Designer

As the graphic designer and title sequencer for our student film, I was responsible for developing the studio identity, designing and animating the logo, and creating the final title sequence alongside Piper Stone (My partner in crime). Our group, humorously named Plan B, adopted the lizard as our emblem—symbolizing resilience and regrowth—which guided the grungy aesthetic of the branding.

Title Sequencer

After finalising the logo, I animated it for potential marketing use, though it ultimately debuted in the film's opening credits. I also collaborated with Piper on the pitch presentation, which outlined our concept, characters, and storyboards, and ensured our marketing portraits were completed early. Finally, I compiled the intro sequence, including sponsor, academy, and studio logos.

COLLABORATING WITH THE DIRECTORS

Collaboration placeholder

Working closely with the directors allowed us to align the visual identity with the film's core themes. Through collaborative sessions, we explored how the title sequence could enhance the narrative's tension and psychological depth.

NARRATIVE & DESIGN

Narrative Visual Direction

Directors, writers and art directors were responsible for the overall look-and-feel. The title sequencers rely on this context because not only does the title sequence need to emulate the story's tone well, but the title sequence will be produced by two individuals that are in tune with one another.

The Chase Metaphor

The Chase

Visual metaphors throughout the film represent the relentless pursuit between hunter and prey, creating tension through symbolic imagery.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Since designing and animating the title sequence requires me to be behind a working screen the entire time, Piper and I were not on location during shoots. The only day I was on set was to shoot my designated scene.
