THE PROBLEM

Title sequences serve as the viewer's first emotional and visual introduction to a film or TV series and serves as a hook to interest the viewer in limited time. Many older or traditional sequences rely on static text and limited motion design and are out-dated for the modern digital era.

THE BRIEF

FMF Brief Visual

This project addresses that challenge by reinterpreting a well-known blockbuster's title sequence through a fresh, contemporary motion design approach that enhances storytelling and visual identity.

THE AUDIENCE

The audience for this project includes existing fans of the chosen movie or series, as well as new viewers encountering the story for the first time.

THE SOLUTION

FMF Solution Visual

The solution is to create an immersive and cinematic title sequence with modern motion graphic standards while remaining true to the media's original tone.

THE ORIGINAL MEDIA

The stop-motion origin of Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel (1970) by director Wes Anderson.

The original novel was illustrated in an energetic, chaotic water colour and ink composition. The characters are lively and charming, and the rough texture and brush stroke elevate that.

The stop motion adaptation was filled with witty quips and shone with strong, definitive personalities. The employed techniques like frame-doubling to create a unique "herky-jerkiness" in the movement, which highlighted the film's handmade construction.

VISUAL DIRECTION

The visual direction is a combination of both sources. The illustrations are digitally rendered but have textures resembling the water-colour storybook style. This is to encompass the 'tales' of their journey in a fun way. The humour and narrative is derived from the troublesome life of Fantastic Mr. Fox.
